Kanha Bhog
During Diwali, the box is the product
Kanha Bhog runs a full mithai counter. Laddus, kaju katli, sesame sweets, assorted boxes, and ghewar when the season comes around. Most of that sells as gifts, and nobody gifts a plain carton. During the festive weeks the box does as much selling as the sweet inside it, so the brief was to give the whole counter packaging worth handing over.
We drew the artwork ourselves rather than pulling stock patterns. Peacocks and florals carry the premium boxes, with gold embossing you can feel under your thumb. The Motichoor Laddu line took a teal and gold floral wrap. The Rajasthani Ghewar collection got its own series with a pavilion illustration, which is rarer than it should be. Ghewar usually travels in whatever box the shop has lying around.
Embossing costs more per box. On a premium sweet it earns the difference back, because the gift feels expensive before it is even opened. Printing, embossing, and finishing all happened in our own unit in Delhi, which is how the gold sits exactly where the artwork put it.
